MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Men’s Junior Basketball Team will bank on its championship experience at the Southeast Asia Basketball Association (SEABA) for the upcoming FIBA (International Basketball Federation) Asia Under-18 championships.

The RP team, which won the SEABA Under-18 title in Thailand last July, will kick off its FIBA Asia campaign in Yemen beginning September 22.

The Filipino junior cagers’ SEABA win earned them a spot at the FIBA Under-18 Championships.

According to coach Eric Altamirano, his wards will rely on their SEABA experience to make up for their lack of height.

Altamirano also believes that his players need to put their intelligence, speed and teamwork into play in order to win the FIBA tournament.

If the RP Team becomes successful in the FIBA Under-18 Championships, it will have a chance to compete in the prestigious FIBA World Championships.

A send-off party, meantime, was held for the RP Team ahead of their departure for Yemen.

Former Manila 3rd District Rep. Miles Roces attended the party in behalf of 7-division world champion Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao. Roces is the president of Pinoy Best Athletes Foundation which helps in funding the training of athletes.
